Ceto stearyl alcohol (Cetearyl Alcohol) is a fatty alcohol used in cosmetics, skincare, and haircare as an emollient (softens skin/hair), emulsifier (blends oil/water), thickener, and stabilizer, improving product texture, consistency, and moisturising properties in creams, lotions, conditioners, and makeup.
It helps create smooth, stable products, adds body, and provides conditioning benefits for hair, making it a versatile ingredient that’s gentle and hydrating.
Key Uses:
Moisturizing & Softening: Acts as an emollient to soothe dry skin and make hair feel smoother.
Emulsifying: Helps oil and water mix in products like lotions and creams.
Thickening & Stabilizing: Gives products body, prevents ingredient separation, and improves spreadability.
Conditioning: Detangles and softens hair in conditioners and masks.
Opacifying: Makes products appear less transparent (e.g., in shampoos).
Common Products:
Moisturizers, body lotions, creams
Hair conditioners, shampoos, hair masks
Sunscreens, facial cleansers, makeup (lipsticks, foundations)
Ceto Stearyl Alcohol Benefits:
Gentle: Considered safe for sensitive skin and unlikely to clog pores (non-comedogenic).
Hydrating: Unlike drying alcohols (like ethanol), it moisturizes.
Enhances Feel: Contributes to a luxurious, smooth feel.
